Powering Real-Time Financial Data Integration with Ebury

Ebury partnered with us to build a fully managed Kafka platform on AWS, enabling secure, automated, and real-time financial data streaming at scale.

About Ebury

Ebury is a global financial services company specializing in cross-border payments, FX risk management, and business lending. With a rapidly growing customer base and the need to process financial data in real time, Ebury required a reliable, scalable backbone that could future-proof their data infrastructure while ensuring compliance and security.

The Challenge

Financial services rely heavily on real-time data accessibility, accuracy, and trust. At Ebury, an expanding PostgreSQL estate was powering multiple transactional workloads, but the team needed more. They required a robust event streaming platform to support always-on financial operations, alongside a secure and automated way to manage Kafka topics and ACLs across environments. In addition, they sought the ability to stream relational data changes from Postgres into cloud storage for analytics and long-term processing. The challenge lay in implementing all of this on AWS and ensuring the platform could scale to handle mission-critical workloads while keeping operational complexity to a minimum.

The Solution

We partnered with Ebury to design and deploy a fully managed Kafka solution on AWS, using automation and streaming best practices to deliver speed, scalability, and resilience. Our approach included:

  • Managed Kafka on AWS – Deploying and configuring Apache Kafka clusters to meet Ebury’s high availability and compliance needs. The setup was optimized for cost-efficiency, throughput, and security.
  • Automated ACLs and Topic Management – Leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code to automate the provisioning and enforcement of access control lists (ACLs) and topic configurations. This eliminated manual configuration errors and streamlined operations across environments.
  • Change Data Capture with Kafka Connect & Debezium – Implementing Kafka Connect with Debezium to read database changes directly from PostgreSQL and stream them in near real time. These events were reliably written to Amazon S3, creating a scalable data lake for downstream analytics and compliance reporting.

The Outcome

The deployment delivered a future-ready data streaming platform that transformed how Ebury integrates and analyzes financial data. Real-time pipelines now power mission-critical payment and FX workflows with always-on resilience, while automated ACL and topic management accelerate developer delivery and reduce operational overhead. By streaming Postgres changes directly into Amazon S3, Ebury unlocked stronger data foundations, enabling advanced analytics, real-time dashboards, and machine learning models built on fresh, trusted data. Combined with our managed services approach, covering resilience, monitoring, and elastic scaling, the platform ensures operational efficiency and peace of mind.

Conclusion

Through our collaboration, Ebury now has a modern event streaming backbone that enables secure, automated, and real-time financial data integration. With Kafka on AWS and automated management in place, they are positioned to scale confidently as their services and customer base continue to expand.
